About the WED Conference
The Women’s Entrepreneurship Development (WED) Conference
Female entrepreneurs are becoming an important and growing force in economies worldwide. Although most women-owned businesses are small-sized and operate in the informal economy, they substantially contribute to local economies. The WED conference is dedicated to providing female entrepreneurs with tools such as access to finance, market information, advisory services and training for continued success.
In the Arab region it is a known fact that small and medium enterprises serve an important role in the creation of employment and reduction of poverty and yet women’s participation in the labour force and national economy is still under the desired levels. To take advantage of the benefits that women offer their local economies, it is extremely important to promote women’s economic empowerment and increase their participation in business through the creation and sustainability of small and medium enterprises.
Currently, there are many governmental agencies, donor organizations, business associations and micro finance institutions that support the development of women’s entrepreneurship. In order to connect women with these support organizations, the WED conference offers an opportunity for these organizations to hear about what women in the workforce need from them and how they can better improve their services.
The Women’s Entrepreneurial Development (WED) Conference is the first conference of its kind in the Middle East to bring together female entrepreneurs, investors interested in funding female ventures, and support organizations to foment female business in the Arab region.
